After logging into Win 2000 Pro I am presented with a
blank desktop - no icons, taskbar etc.
I also then get a blank window open with "update" in the
title bar, followed by another with "status" in the title
bar. I then get a third, with "@microsoft.windows.update"
in the title bar. They are closed automatically and an
error dialog appears with the message "unable to open
dialog".
I can get round this by stopping the explorer.exe task
(from task manager), starting a command window and running
explorer.exe from the winnnt folder.
I have read that one of the dlls in winnt may be either
missing or old, but this is not the case as I hae replaced
the dll. I have run Norton virus checker on the entire
system and all seems ok.
The only thing I can think of is that I ran Lavasoft Ad-
aware and I am worried it has deleted an important file.
Any thoughts appreciated.
