pc automatically shut down, when restart only shows a blank desktop with
wallpaper only. no icons or task bar. please help

Once in "blank desktop",install xp cd,exit the menu page,press
Ctrl_Alt_Delete
& bring up task mgr,in mgr,new task,type:cmd Exit task mgr,in cmd type:
Sfc /Scannow When its thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,type:EXIT
Restart pc,remove xp cd.

To aid during your troubleshooting:

Hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete.
From there go to Processes and end task on Explorer.exe
Leave the Task Manager open - then go to File/Run and type in:
Explorer.exe
