My address bar drop down list is always blank. If I start to type a url IE
does pop up the options so I know they are saved in there somewhere but when
I click on the drop down list there is nothing ever there.

I tried IE with another user on the same computer and it is working fine but
not for my login.

Hi Rocky :-)

Well......as you don't tell us the version of Windows you are using, so, I
can only make a guess on this. Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab
Under Browser, check the box next to Enable Personalized Favorites Menu
Click apply and close out.

or ...

Show Favorites Expanded
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs...expandfavs.reg

and...

These are known as favicons.ico (Favorite Icons) and they normally will only
last until your Internet Explorer Temp files are cleared.

or.

Favicons
http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#Favicons

also..

Courtesy of Frank Saunders -

The Favicons are stored in the Temporary Internet Files (TIF) and disappear
when they expire out of TIF or TIF is cleared. Get FavOrg:
http://www.gratilog.net/anglais/internet/favorg.zip
http://uk.geocities.com/personel44/files/favorg.zip
FavOrg - Restore and Save Favorite Icons (Line 108)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

and..

Icons are temporarily stored in a file called iconcache.dll, You might try
deleting this file and restart your computer, Windows should automatically
rebuild the iconcache.dll on reboot. Be sure to make a bckup copy just in
case.

This is the stored History of the addresses you typed in the Address Bar.

If you want the see all the pages you went to, including with search
engines, click on the History icon in the toolbar.

Or....click the link to open it, then copy the URL in the Address Bar and
close the site. Then paste the URL into the Address Bar and click GO. That
will open the site and add the URL to the History and it will then show in
the dropdown list.

However, if you have your History set to keep files for only so many days it
will be flushed from the History at that time, or if you clear your History
files, then the URL will no longer be in the list.

Hope this helps.

Your address dropdown list is pulled from history, whereas URLs pulled up by
typing an address come from the registry.

I suspect your History folder is corrupt, or overlarge. Create a new one.
Follow the instructions at the URL below:

Are you referring to the list of 25 entries which drops down
when you press F4? That is known as the TypedURLs list.
It is an anachronism. I think it would be a good idea not to have it
since it represents a place in the registry that malware can seed
URLs to take you to their site (e.g., without you actually having
gone there or even entered that in your Address bar.)

This is a bit ambiguous too. When you start to type in the Address bar,
provided you have AutoComplete for Web Addresses checked
(via Options, Contents tab), you would be seeing a dropdown list
called AutoSuggest. It is the successor to TypedURLs and
is derived from several sources, principally the History's index.dat
but also Favorites, Desktop shortcuts, etc. *and* TypedURLs
(if it exists).

If it's TypedURLs you are referring to, that's a registry only source
and it's possible that the key involved has been marked to prevent
it from being used. You could use RegMon to check on that
possibility but as I indicate you really shouldn't consider it much
of a loss.

The other user has a different user hive and thus uses
a different TypedURLs key potentially with different permissions.
