i'm probably way *wrong* here so if i am, *correct* me.

who's to blame for the "near" death of Usenet and IRC ? Microsoft (and
other companies like Yahoo and even Google), spammers/bots, or
pedophiles? can these "dying" technologies fight back and reclaim
their throne(s)?

Hi. This is the meow-send program at usenet. I'm afraid I wasn't able to
deliver any clue to the following address: (E-Mail Removed)

This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

I reckon 95% of people online don't even know that usenet exists, mainly
down to ISPs not running their own newsservers or promoting it to new
users.

Dunno about Usenet, but I'd say IM killed IRC. The first major IM I recall
is ICQ. Even my boss had it--he used it to keep in touch with us because it
was quicker than e-mail.

I miss IRC chat. We had our own channel called "Somewhere Else" and a big
group of us from all over the world used to gather there on Friday nights.

"Miranda" (and I'm sure there are others) is about the only IM that
incorporated IRC; I wonder if Yahoo, AIM, and MSN are now going to be
talking to each other if they'll be incorporating IRC as well?

What I meant was that before the days of IM, IRC was a great way to stay in
touch worldwide in real-time chat. IM clients have pretty much done away
with the need for chat rooms.

Trillian (and most other IM apps that support multi IM networks)
supports IRC
IRC is still holding its own, as an alternative to 'pirate sites',
torrents and Usenet too, for that matter. evolving into more of a P2P
than a chat,
Hey, there are still BBS equivalents going strong

La plus ca change, le plus cela meme chose
