If anyone can please help, I have a toshiba laptop. I have not installed any
new hardware/software. At startup, I reach the first Windows XP screen but
then it goes black. I was told to press F1 (by a friend) to get to the
safemode logon options. This worked for 2 weeks. Now this has stopped
working. After selecting any of the safemode logon options, the system
starts to boot but stops at "d347bus.sys" whilst loading files, flashes a
blue screen and then restarts. This just keeps repeating if i select F1. If
i dont select F1, the screen stays black. I have no access to recovery
options or CDs. I have no floppy drive to create a boot disk. I do not have
the XP setup CD's. I have access to another pc and the web. The laptop has
a CD drive only. Can anyone offer me a solution or explanation. Thanks

What is the Stop Error Reort?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Gerry, Thanks for getting back to me.

The problem is on my laptop. I can't disable the restart on system failure
option as the laptop fails to boot up thus I cannot access any part of my
desktop at all. There is no affect from any of the "F#" keys. The only
thing I can do is press F2 to get to BIOS, F12 to select boot drive or F1
which lists safemode options...but F1 after listing the options allows you to
select one of the options, runs for 15 seconds then freezes, flashes the blue
error screen real quick then reboots. This laptop has no floppy drive, cd
drive only. I looked up the problem in MS KB and realised why it keeps
restarting and that i need to get the STOP code. I just don't know how to
stop it. The keyboard is part of the laptop (not wireless). Can you suggest
anything else.

Look again at one of the safe mode options using your F1 key.You should
see " Disable automatic restart on system failure" there.

What exactly do you have by way of a CD? It looks as though you will
have to try to boot using your CD. How lets see if we can get a Stop
Error code and the line immediately below the code?

Gerry,

If i press "F1" my only options are:
1.Safe mode
2.Safe mode with Networking
3.Safe mode with command prompt
4.It says "if your comp stopped respondin, restarted unexpectedly, or was
automatically shut down select 'Last Known Good Config'"
5.OR Start Windows Normally.

Doesn't matter which one i select, nothing happens if I press "F8" before or
after selection, plus they each do the same thing...run for 15 secs...freeze
then quickly flash the blue screen. I have looked at how to create a
bootable CD for XP but it seems real complicated.

Do you know what else I could try. Thanks again for helping considering the
time and all.

Black Screens of Death often mean you are overclocking.

Gerry,

I'm in Birmingham. England. I'm out for the most of the day today but I'll
be back at 6.30pm working on this problem. I'm gonna try and track down a
floppy drive for the laptop so I can try a boot disk. Would really
appreciate any help you can give. If you think of anything during the day
you can email me (E-Mail Removed) or keep postin ideas on this forum. I
will be back on line this evening.

R u in Stourport?

Thanks
Rex

Plato,

I'm sorry, i dont know what 'overclocking' means. Is there anything that
you can suggest. If you look at the messages above between myself and Gerry,
you'll get a bigger picture of my problem. I would really appreciate any
help you can give me in getting this laptop up and running again.

Thanks
Rex
