Hi I have looked every where for info on this, some people have the same
problem but there are no answers.

Everytime my son logs off I get this black screen with a flashing cursor, I
left it like this over night to see what happens but it never changed back to
the login screen, so I have to switch off and switch PC back on evertime he
uses it.

can you help

winXP Pro S2
AMD Sempron(tm) 2400+

Hello Marie; hope this helps.
Logging off or restarting the computer after switching users may cause
Windows XP to stop responding. Please read article link to see if your
computer problem applies.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only
intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;872789
Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not
severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the
next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs,
visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Hello Marie; have you tried "Remote Assistance"? If you use a
computer even occasionally, chances are good you've run into a problem
you can't solve on your own. And if you've called a friend or technical
support for help, you've probably discovered how frustrating it can be
to try to describe the situation. Explaining to the computer guru what
you see can be like describing colors to a blind person: You know what
you see on the screen, but your description loses something in the
translation. In this case a picture really would be worth a thousand
words.

Fortunately, Windows XP users don't have to struggle with words. Thanks
to Remote Assistance, you can let the expert see what's on your PC and
take control of your computer. Remote Assistance is a tool that
Microsoft bundles with all WinXP machines that lets a friend or
colleague connect to your computer. Once connected, the two of you can
walk through the problem together. Here's what you'll need to know to
get you started.
Think of Remote Assistance as a remote camera with special powers, and
you'll have a good idea of what the tool can do. You invite someone
else to view your machine, and not only can the other person see your
Desktop on her monitor, but, given the proper permission from you, she
can use her mouse and keyboard to work on your PC. Remote Assistance
lets you be the expert, as well. If your friend is having difficulty,
you could log onto her computer and fix, for example, a problem with
her speakers by upgrading her sound card.
