Hi everyone,

I just upgraded my 1 1/2 year old Compaq desktop to 1 GB of RAM from the
original 512MB. Everything is fine and the conmputer recognizes the
increase. Only problem is that when I boot up the computer, the screen goes
black for 40-45 seconds with no hard drive activity. This happens after the
Windows XP startup splash screen is shown. After this 40-45 second delay,
everything is OK. I guess this isn't a huge problem...at least the computer
starts and I can live with it, but it just seems wierd that the increased
RAM would increase my startup time. Is this normal?

Did you use the exact type of RAM specified for your computer?

Remove the stick and reinsert - same problem?

Remove both sticks and switch slots - same problem?

Remove the new stick and run only with the old one - problem solved?

The above will tell you if the memory you purchased is defective.

Before you remove the RAM chips - run a RAM test first

I was just wondering if you came to a conclusion.

I am experiencing the excact same thing om my compaq, going from a single 256 stick to an additional DDR400 1 gig stick. I used the memory checking utility, and there is nothing wrong with the ram. I upgraded the Bios, but still no luck...

Check the requirements on the motherboard. Or ask HP tech support.
