Had a dual boot win XP SP3 and linux system. While trying to remove linux and
the partition I deleted the MBR (received grub error 22). I ran a repair of
windows via the installation disk (fixmbr and fixboot from the command line).
It seemed to go fine other than at the prompt the drive letter was 'D:' Now
on start up it goes to a black screen with a cursor and then freezes.

How do I fix this?

Please post your boot.ini file.

If you deleted the MBR how did you recover the disk? Tools like
TestDisk should be able to recover the disk but there are no Microsoft
tools available to recover the MBR.

If the MBR is intact, and if the computer is booting to a blinking
cursor in the upper left corner of the screen, in all likelihood the
disk doesn't have an active partition, you can boot the computer with a
Windows 98 startup diskette and use the FDISK utility to verify and set
the active partition flag.
