I am trying to create a video using importing photos option. The import goes
through fine and I see the photos on the capture window. But when I drag the
photos to the storyboard and hit play I just get a black capture window.

Might be worth a try to convert the image
files to a different format before importing
into Movie Maker.

Try converting to Windows Bitmap .bmp.

I tried that and it doesn't help. The playback screen is black no matter what
format is being used. The music is playing and the timeline scrolls, but the
screen is black.
What can I do?

I don't know the answer but I'll offer some ideas.

Maybe it's a video driver issue...try reducing your
graphics hardware acceleration and if you see an
improvement...update your video driver from the
website of your video adapter's mfg..

Maybe it's a codec issue, I had this problem with
some .avi files I was trying to play in WMP and
it was caused by a codec package I downloaded
from the net.
