I don't know how this all started, but recently, when I start windows 2000
and the desktop comes up, I cannot use my notepad mouse or keys, or my
external usb microsoft intellimouse or buttons.
I can move the cursor around ok, but clicking on a quickstart icon does
nothing. Clicking on start does nothing. Clicking on a desktop icon will open
the app, but I cannot then close it by clicking the x in the corner.

However, if I simply hit ctrl+esc to get the start menu up, then everything
is normal from that point forward.

Any clues would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Ian

try installing the latest ms intellimouse drivers -- I'd bet that a previous
spyware scan got a little carried away at some point....
