I have a similar problem. When trying to open PowerPoint
2000, the PPT screen appears and then a box that
syas, "PowerPoint has detected an error it can't correct".
I have used the Tools, Repair feature to try and correct
this. There is a file that can't be updated when I reboot.
I have tried uninstalling PPT and the re-installing this.
Still no luck.

>I have a VB6 client application that controls PowerPoint
to produce a slide presentation based on Excel charts that
are copied to the slides. All works very well, until the
PowerPoint Application closes. At that point, I get the
message box:
>
>"Sorry, PowerPoint hit an error it could not diagnose or
recover from"

>This is a server application that normally runs
unattended. When that message box pops up, there is
nobody there to click the OK button (which actually solves
the problem). What is worse, DR. Watson (DRWCLOSE) will
not close this box, so that's not an option.

Web and have found one hit from 4 years ago that didn't
really describe the error or its cause.
