I recently nuked and paved a laptop I bought from a friend with the
recovery cd for the cpu. It's a windows xp home edition, and after I
went through the setup and it rebooted, it hung right before the BIOs
loads. I can't get it past that point, and help would be most
appreciated.

-thanks

"Recovery cd for the cpu" , no such item exists on a pc.....Also,the BIOS
doesnt
open unless prompted to,its always running w/o it you'd have no user
functions.
What set-up are you referring to......

When you say "the recovery cd for the cpu", I don't get that. But, what I do
know that there is probably something wrong in the BIOS. In other words,
there's an incorrect setting. You'll have to see how to reset the BIOS.

Hey William, seems you & I both understand a cpu as that little
chip--usually an Intel or an AMD--that plugs into the mobo & is cooled by a
heatsink and fan. Just happens my 29-yr-old was home this week, & in
discussing computers, I learned she was taught a cpu is the box filled with
mobo, 'processor', harddrives, psu, ram, etc. My wife was taught likewise.
Maybe the OP meant cpu in this sense. I was not taught anything, as I just
picked up computer lingo a short # of years back. Hope this eliminates a
little confusion. s

My 31 year old daughter informs me this is called the "hard drive".

In some similar circles, the actual hard drive is called "memory". Am still
trying to figure out what they call RAM.

All symptoms of urban myth. Otherwise known as hearsay in previous times.

There is no setup per se with a recovery CD process.

Nothing detectible by all five senses is noted before the bios loads, or
even commences after that. The next subsequent step, RAM count, is usually
noted by visual display.
On some desktops, the video card may note some message prior to bios video
display of its post commencement.

OK, I think you mean from your message that you used the computer
manufactures (essential information you didn't include) restore software to
restore your the laptop. You now need to supply specific information on the
make, model of the laptop you need help restoring.
It also helps if you use real life terms when describing your system and
what you have tried and what results you got.
This is a peer support newsgroup and you need to supply precise information
that spans across all possible genres available in this knowledge pool.

Amen to that. I'm living proof that, who was it?...Murphy?...who held
that a theorem was law: If sdlomi2 CAN misinterpret something, he most

Think Mike means you need to provide all kinds of information on your
computer before any possibly correct information can follow. Right now,
based on input so far, can't even make an intelligent guess. But, that's
just a guess on Mike's meaning.
