Hello,

For some stupid reason(which I regret) , I changed the preference of my boot
at the BIOS stage(inital setup), i.e. I disabled "Quick Boot" and now my PC
(Win XP) is forever rebooting.

Its been rebooting for the last 24 hours, hanging on the "press <tab> or
<del>" stage. Can anyone plse help.

I'm really not sure why doing that would cause your problem, but if this
is a desktop (and hopefully it is), with the computer off and unplugged
open the case. Remove the motherboard battery (usually a small
coin-shaped battery) and let the computer sit. Sometimes this only
takes a few hours, but you could leave it overnight. Then put the
battery back on the motherboard. The BIOS should now be set to factory
defaults.

An alternate to removing the battery,
Your owners manual should tell you where the Bios shorting chip is.
You move the chip to alternate pins to short out the Bios, then replace the
chip where it was.
This sets the BIOS to factory settings.

Good luck,

That should be jumper instead of chip

I'm assuming that you have changed the BIOS setting back again right? In any
event disabling Quick Boot should not cause this problem. Is it possible
that you made other changes while in the BIOS? Take a look at the Boot
Sequence or Boot Order. It should be listed something like this
First device - Floppy
Second device - CD-Rom
Third device - HD0
Fourth device - Disabled

Different BIOS's have different terms for these settings but you should be
able to sort it once you can see them.
check here for info on how to access different BIOS types

Morning all,

Last night just as I was abt to open my machine to remove the battery
thought I should give a last go. I rebooted the machine and tried F8, <tab>
and <del> keys with no luck. Then I decided to "press and hold" tab key while
its rebooting, and this did the trick and prompted me to press del for BIOS
settings.

I then enabled "Quick Boot" and saved changes, and off it go, the system
came up. I've learned never to mess with BIOS.
Many thanks for your inputs gents.
