simple question:
How to figure out with WinXP, wether my BIOS
has the Extended-Bios-Functions or not ?
(e.g. the extended INT 13h functions, you need to read or write
above the 8GB of your HDD.)

To find which BIOS is installed: start\run and type msinfo32 and check
system summary.

Search manufacturer web-pages (or GOOGLE) for detailed information regarding
the installed BIOS.

Downloading/installing/running Belarc Advisor (belarc.com) is another tool
for bringing up detailed information about your computer and the components
installed.
