Just been Googling on this, due to yesterday fitting a PEAK AGP 8x GeForce
6200 256mb ddr2 graphics card to my brothers PC.
http://www.tweak3d.net/joomla/featur...-size-examined
....sort of explains BIOS "AGP Aperture Size"

The leaflet that came with the PEAK card reccommended a 4mb aperture ?

I've got a PNY GeForce 6200 card in my PC, and I think I have a pretty large
aperture set.
I don't play games as such, I may, every couple of weeks, spend the odd ten
minutes or so with Far Cry just to look at the graphics, and the water
lapping at the shores !

Any views on AGP Aperture Size ?

regards, Richard

My view: ask in a group that has something to do with your question.
This does NOT pertain to XP and hardware problems - you did read the
group title before posting here, right? Oh, I guess not.

ASK ELSEWHERE

I leave mine set to 64MB, for the reasons stated in the article.

AGP aperture is a reservation of address space, and doesn't actually reserve
the memory itself. The memory is not dedicated to the AGP function, until
called for.

When it becomes an issue, is if you installed 4GB of memory, and were
using an 32 bit OS. Any address space allocated to access PCI or AGP busses,
or the AGP aperture, limits the amount of memory that can be physically
accessed. So if you wanted more of the installed memory to be useful,
then turning down the aperture in that case helps. If you had 3GB or less
of physical memory installed, then the aperture setting is not as big a deal.

...... top-posting idiot.

NoConsequence, were you issued a badge? Has anyone ever asked you to
keep all the posters in line? Are you paid when you get people to post
in the "right" topic header?

Just curious. It seems to be your goal in life, keeping others within
your lines.

Keep in mind that a lot of information on the net is already obsolete (ie.
that page is from 2004). Much of the advice regarding AGP aperture, and the
even the need for it, dates from days when video cards commonly came with
16Megs of RAM or even less. With 256Megs RAM on the video card the AGP
aperture setting is probably moot, if not completely redundant. If it needs
to be set to something, use what the card manufacturer suggests or the BIOS
default.

As far as you know.

No, just trying to restore a little order. Oh, and I'm RIGHT, this
post has nothing to do with this group.

I suppose it's ok to steal, even though it's breaking the law,
because, after all, it's what you WANT to do?

Hi again,

You should consider using your spell check a little more often.

......Grow thicking skin

......Dumbass.

Also, I like your signoff as NoConsequence much better than Dumbass.

Aside from that, I don't have the slightest problem with your postings
here or elsewhere, I actually like to read your views, and those of
UncleGrumpy. You folks have views not normally aligned with the crowd,
it's refreshing at times. I doubt your "job" will ever be finished here,
I'll always be a top poster, you'll probably respond here even though
you know it's OT and not in the "right place", and I enjoy your posts too.

........just trying to restore a little order.

That's a good goal, but I doubt it's possible here with most people
never returning, or even able to find their original posts. It's not
like there are rules posted at the door here either. Good luck in your
quest though.

Don't forget to have some fun too!
