Binned OUTLOOK 2003

My Psion became a paperweight so I uninstalled the Psion/Windows XP software
applications (Add/remove programmes). Having become fed up with Outlook
2003 repeatedly complaining that it could not find the Psion add-in, I
followed it's first suggestion: in Outlook, Help, Detect and Repair, ticked:
'Restore my shortcuts while repairing'. Problem not cured, so took second
option in Outlook, Help, Detect and Repair, ticked: 'Discard my customized
settings and restore default settings'. This option appears to have
re-installed Outlook 2003 - all my folders (saved emails), rules, Contacts
have gone. Is there anyway of retrieving them?

Keith

Discovered: Although both Contacts and Address Book are shown as empty,
when creating a new message the 'auto suggest' list of email addresses
appears in the To: (and, if used) Cc fields. so something must have been be
left behind. Anyway of getting the addresses or contacts back? And my wife
wants her folders!

Windows version? How long ago did you do this? If your OS supports System
Restore and you did it really recently, use System Restore to roll back. If
not, the settings are gone.

If you do restore, go into tools, options, other, advanced, com addins and
disable the psion addin. If its not listed, find and delete extend.dat.

If its not listed, find and delete extend.dat.

Started adding email addresses by New, "a" in To: field, use first address,
right clicking it,and adding to Outlook contacts and so on. After doing
three, discovered a large outlook.pst file as well as outlook.pst1 (the one
to whish I was adding. Discovered how to show the outlook.pst folder under
Contacts, but not how to delete the new (now redundant) outlook.pst1.
I was adding

I think your data is fine but you may have more than one Outlook profile
and Outlook is not set to prompt you to switch between them.

Control Panel -> Mail
Click on Show Profiles
Do you see more than one profile?

Set Outlook to prompt you for a profile and choose the other profile. It
will have your original data and settings.

Once you confirm which is the real profile, delete the unneeded profile.

Please make a backup of your registry (your Outlook settings are stored
in the HKCU section) before you continue.

Open command prompt (start -> run -> cmd or start -> search in: cmd)
reg export hkcu "%userprofile%\hkcu.reg"

Quotation marks and percentage signs are important.

You close Outlook and use the mail applet in the control panel to add the
data file and set this as the default message store

XP doesn't create them automatically every day?

File, Data file management to add and remove pst files. Or control panel,
mail, profiles.
