I clicked on the file a while back, nothing appeared to happen.
(I didn't download it, just clicked).
Do you have to download and open it to be infected.

Anyway I ran an uptodate AVG on my comp and it found nowt.
Ii didnt have the registry key either.

Also does it only affect certain systems ie not windows98?

The sophos? site is *unclear* about this, they sound like an
incompedent bunch to me.

I also found the following similar thing
=========================

Early this morning Arnold Schwarzenegger was found hanging by his neck from
the large oak tree in his Californian garden. In a suicide note found at
the scene he tells of his sordid sex life and lack of will to live. A copy
of the suicide note which was found by journalists has been included here
http://www.theparadise.x-y.net/ArnoldSchwarzenegger.zip

============================

Is this also a virus, if it is AVG didn't detect it, nor did yahoo's
email anti-virus cos I emailed it to my account and scanned it.

There seems very little info about this virus in the public
domain.
If I was a cynical bugger (which I am) I would say it was created
by an Anti-virus firm (not mentioning any names here) as a publicity
stunt. Mind you on second thought that is much to far fetched.

Also the message below gives the decode domain name,

===========================
Osama Bin Ladin was found hanged by two CNN journalists early Wedensday
evening. As evidence they took several photos, some of which i have
included here. As yet, this information has not hit the headlines due to
Bush wanting confirmation of his identity but the journalists have released
some early photos over the internet..
http://24.13.130.125:89/OsamaFoundDead.zip
==============================

Which is now dead, maybe it was dead the first time I clicked
on it?

What normally happens when you click on a .zip file link normally?
Does it download and run the file? I am unsure myself.

Cheers
1/2 pint.

PLEASE do not continually repost these links to the infected file(s).
There is no point in giving newbies /extra/ chances to infect
themselves. Thanks for your cooperation in the future.

Depends on your browser. Most will offer to download the zip.

Well the link is dead anyway and the live one passes my virus
scan.
Perhaps if more people get infected I will find out what is going
on and whether I am infected ot not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cos at the moment I have no ****ing clue.

Anyway, isn't it for your ISP to block links to viruses.
Not my frigging job is it?
Well I ain't been paid yet anyway :O|

That's pretty obvious. As of about 8:00 P.M. Eastern U.S.A. some
results are:

Antivir no alert
BitDefender Backdoor.SDBot.gen
Clamav no alert
Dr. Web no alert
F-Prot no alert
F-Secure Backdoor.Hackarmy.gen
KAV Backdoor.Hackarmy.gen
McAfee Backdoor-AZV
Nod32 no alert
Norman Sandbox: W32/Backdoor

It may pass /your/ virus scan, but what about the newbie with an
outdated (or no) a-v program? Be logical here.

The more people that click on these links and get infected, the more
of these links you will have to click on, that's for sure.

(I'm tempted to say that was obvious...)

If my ISP blocked links, I would find a new one. It is a good idea if
a /web host/ takes down malicious sites, though.

Yes, it is your job: to protect yourself.

I have AVG and Mcafee. On the Bin Laden trojan, AVG 0 Mcafee 1. I didn't
bother to test the "Arnold" It's probably the same trojan as the Bin Laden
one, and it CAn affect Win 98, I'm running Win 98 SE here. Maybe you should
run one of the free online scanners now? (Jeez!)

I would imagine people who are daft enough to download reported
viruses probably already has a computer riddled with infections.

Quite likely. However, the author of the virus very much depends on
the social engineering aspect to entice more victims. Why, who
wouldn't want to watch a video of Ahnold committing suicide?

The original post by the virus, however, doesn't /say/ it's a virus,
so the unsuspecting click it to see what it is.

They take ages to run in the first place and in the second place
why should they be any better than AGV? AVG? ??
