Please forgive the cross-posting: I've been trying to figure out
this problem, which happens several times an hour; there have been
only a few responses, so I'm trying to find somebody, anybody, who can
help:

I have identified the error that is causing my Windows Explorer
to flash, black out, shut down, restart etc:
I found about a zillion entries for this error in the Events -
Services log. Please help!

Error --- DCOM --- None --- 10005 --- Owner --- Computer
DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is
disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "
attempting to start the service ImapiService with arguments "-Service"
in order to run the server: {520CCA63-51A5-11D3-9144-00104BA11C5E}

Are you sure that it? I've had DCOM disabled for two
years and have those error msg. as well with no problems.
Most home users will never need DCOM and it is a security
breech.
Imapi service has to do with CD-burning.

What is DCOM

Go to control panel---administrative tools---services and set Imapi to
manual.
