Both my regular cd rom drive and my cd rewrite drives are
down due to a driver problem. I think that while trying
to resolve a different problem I inadvertantly deleted
some files and then wipe them out of the recycle bin.
Hence I don't think I will be able to re install the XP
OS which is on a cd that needs to be run on one of the
drives that has corrupted drivers (both have driver
problems) I am assuming that they are both a result of
the same missing or corrupted files. When I installed
the software and drivers for the CD Re Write Windows kept
giving me a message at boot up That it will disable the
drivers that I had loaded because they could create an
unstable situation for windows. Windows disabled them but
did not remove them so everytime i started the computer
up I kept getting the same message. So while trying to
remove these drivers i probably removed some that the cd
rom's need. Is there a way out of this.

Hi,

The error message was probably in regards to a conflict between your
installed burning software and the native WinXP burning software. Disabling
the imapi burning service is usually the answer (start/run services.msc).

Do you currently see the drives in WIndows Explorer? If not, see if this
helps

http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm, under section 8 - Problems - there is a
link to a patch that often resolves this problem

Go to device manager and delete the drives, and reboot, the system will
recognize them and re install them complete with drivers.
