Hi all
I have a domain controller, servers and workstations on
win2k. And i have one problem - when user makes logon in
domain, this action takes about 5 min. Message "Applying
user's settings.." float on the screen and that is it for
near 5 minutes. I do not think this is a very rare
situation, so could anybody tell me a solution for this
problem?
Thanx in advance

Hello,

Two things come to mind initailly. Group policies and DNS.

Where is this client pointing to for DNS? Where is the domain controller
pointing to for DNS?
How many Group Policies are you pushing out? Are you applying any security
templates?

Do you have a particularly complicated/large domain
policy? or use RIS on your net?

I would agree with Shane, those are the 1st two places I
would look as well. Is this a native domain? if so
another thing I might try is to put a sniffer on the wire
and then try to log on from the problem workstations. By
doing this you can view the packets and see if tere any
issues there. I had a similar situation as your not too
long ago and after much lost sleep, it turns out the
problem was a bad nic card in a workstation causing a
loop in the network.
Good luck,
Mike E.

I'm having the exact same problem since I just installed a new firewall.
Bulletin 304285 explains the details. It says I must "Gather the DNS
settings for the Windows 2000 domain DNS server that you want to log on to."
and assign them to the clients. This is only happening on Windows 2000
clients, not Windows XP. Why is this? If I put my lan IP for my domain
server of 192.168.0.2 to them they lose internet capabilities.
