How do I set up a printer to be bi-directional?

It's usually a CMOS or System Setting in the Peripherals, Ports area.

Varies, depending how the bios software chooses to interface with the
parallel port chip when choosing ECP, or EPP. Some bios software have two
choices other than a standard printer port, only one may work with your
printer software for bidirectional mode.

You can't. It's either built to be by design or it's not. I think you're
trying to fix something or configure a printer to do something nontrivial,
but I can't quite tell. Instead of asking about a particular step in an
easter egging process, what's the desired end result you're looking for?

You have to change the settings in bios setup at boot
You don't actually change the printer you change the
port if that printer is connected to a parallel port
