I've been watching Defender for several days now and on one system I have
"Spynet" enabled. There is a constant flood of information being sent,
although I haven't gotten far enough yet to determine what it consists of.

Check it yourself. Although they say it will not consist of any personal
information, I would hesitate before you agree to send anything to spynet
(or MS). AND ..... even if you opt not to, check to see if that "no" button
actually works. You can check easily if you have a decent firewall installed
on your system. Who knows what the Bush government has worked out with
Microsoft.

Paranoid..... LG

You may be right Plun but the paranoia is getting pretty bad over here with
the Bush government trying to monitor everything we say and do.

Hi

Well..........

Personally I hate every IP adress "abuse" if there are no reason to
log it for safetey reasons.

Microsoft is NOT a security police and therefore a IP adress is not
needed.

My countrys security police/intelligense service can track me if they
want and also others as your contrys beacuse of all lunatics within
this world.

So I have no problem with Echelon...........

See if Mr Bush can translate this:

Nope

Is Echelon often discussed in US ?

About IP adresses this is an "hot issue"
for file shares and to hide IP adresses with
anonymous proxys.

My personal opinion is that if this goes on it will
be total anarchy with anonymous users every where... ;(

But I´m sure that all ISPs throttle down all of this
traffic to a minimum.

plun

I have Spynet enabled, but I am not seeing anything being sent. But then
I am not located in the US...

Actually--if you read the advanced spynet member description it mentions
that pii may be collected. although it will not be used to contact you. My
take on this is that such info will either be incidental/accidental--for
example, contained in a memory dump--or that it is incidental in the sense
that they will have your IP address.

I won't speak to the paranoia angle--all my base are belong to Bush anyway..

Echelon does get some discussion here, but it isn't exactly a hot topic.
