Hello,

My son and I are using an Epson Expressions 10000XL scanner, attached
to a Mac, at a library. It is not reproducing color accurately
enough.

By tweaking the gamma setting, pressing harder on the lid, and other
shot-in-the-dark approaches, we can get partial results at best. We
can get the picture to be either well-contrasted (dark blacks and
bright whites) with dim colors, or we can get bright colors with wimpy
blacks/whites. We can't get all the colors right on the same take.

We asked one of the help staff here; she didn't know what to do.

Advice?

Thank you!

Ted Shoemaker

First of all make sure you are using the Professional setting for the
Epson software. The "Tonal Correction" or "Histogram Adjustment" are
two very powerful tools in this setting. Make sure if you are going
from book you have the descreening set. I have to scan from books and
journals a lot and it is always a mixed bag, especially if the images
go into the gutter of the book. After scanning you will almost always
have to tweek the images in an image editor. I scan into Photoshop and
work from there, my V700 gets me very close most of the time.
Again if the images go into the gutter of the book it is almost
impossible to get a good scan. The default scanning should be close
though.
