Hi there,

I have a beta copy of Windows 7 and I wonder if that will upgrade a current version of Windows XP?

Also, if I succeed in doing that, when it comes time to purchase a license for Windows 7, will I be able to just upgrade the key number code and continue on? Perhaps I might be able to upgrade with an in place re-installation?

Thanks,

Gordon

No. Not directly.

No. Even if you went from Windows XP to Windows Vista to Windows 7 (the
upgrade path you could do without a clean installation of some sort) - the
"beta" (likely RC - Release Candidate) would need to be uninstalled and the
full version installed in order to use your new license for Windows 7.

Maybe - but Microsoft recommends a clean install when going from RCs to Full
Releases - so it would probably not be worth your time - unless the upgrade
path I have given you seem simple enough.

There is no direct upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Since you won't succeed in doing that, there's really no question
here.
