No, don't throw it out the window. You might hit someone and then get your ass sued off. I think you should just run it over with your car myself. -Dave

Is it a good one? I removed one from an old (more than 4 years) HP
Pavilion PC (hp4088hk).

Should I just throw it out of the window?

It's a big accident waiting to happen, dispose of it properly and thank your
lucky stars it didn't wreck the machine you removed it from.

I don't have the luck, the skill and the money to buy a card.

I swapped in a Antec SmartPower 400W power supply for that PC.

Is Bestec a good brand actually? Better than Antec?

The Bestec 250W is known to blow up and ruin the motherboard.
That isn't the best recommendation a power supply manufacturer
can get. I suspect they've produced the same model, with the
same design limitations, for years and years. I would keep
it in my "storage room", if I had your 300W model.

Antec uses contract manufacturing. Some other posters have
commented on who makes their supplies. At one time, it
was Herolchi (HEC). Then it was ChannelWell (CWT). And
apparently lately, at least one from Delta. At least
one of the ChannelWell ones had bad capacitors (I owned one).

So Antec product quality, really depends on who built the
supply for them. And many other companies are like Antec,
contracting out the manufacturing to others. Only a
few make their own.

And manufacturers use paid workers (except maybe in China).

You got ripped off, so the Antec brand name means less to you.

Chinese companies? With Chinese parts? Almost all electronic
components are made in China nowadays.

Maybe Antec is not all that great, but it is a brand name.

I guess that meant it's not that good. Thanks!

You may want to search www.badcaps.net/forum for "Bestec" for
discussions of problems with that brand of PSU, including this thread,
"The Bestec Mystery Solved", about their old 12E models, which include
250W and 300W units:

http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthr...stec#post79664

JonnyGuru did their autopsy of a 250W 12E series Bestec:

"Bestec does have other models out there that don't tend to fry
mainboards - it's this 12E model in particular that has single
handedly flushed their reputation down the commode."

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...print&reid=154

They also did reviews of several cheap 300-650W PSUs below, and the
300W Delta could put out more power than some other brands rated for
much higher power:
