Looking for the best wireless mouse out there. Mine goes through batteries
constantly as it must not be going into sleep mode and I'm not good at
turning it off (not an option).

I have tried a few.
The worst were the ones made by Dynex.
They use 2 batteries and the batteries had to be changed every week or
two.
One Dynex mouse fell apart after three or four months.
Finally I spent a few more $ and am using Microsoft wireless mice for
my laptops.
They use one battery cutting the battery price about in half and the
batteries last about two months reducing the cost further.
It does not take long for the battery cost savings to make up the
initial cost difference.

Get one that has a charger base and before you leave it each day - put it in
its charger base.
In other words - it's more of a user issue - not really a hardware issue.
Although I do have some mice that can go 3-5 days of 8-16 hours of use each
day without needing charging - to *expect* that of wireless power would be
unrealistic.

As far as a name brand - I like Logitech mice/trackballs - always have.

I have to agree here. I have been using Logitech trackballs for years now
and the same set of batteries will last for about a year.

I was testing a couple of these toys and *all* of them failed. They were
either battery eaters and/or not amusing since they required to push tiny
mouse and receiver buttons before they decided to work. I will never ever
understand why people waste their money for toys like that. During more
than 25 years of heavy computing I came across *one* situation only which
*really* required wireless mouse and wireless keyboard.

Well, I was positive that kids were setting the fashion concerning wireless
input devices. However, even my son refuses to work with such hardware
since being available. All systems here have wired mice (and keyboards)
while the wireless stuff rests in the original wrapping where it belongs.

perhaps because we need to see reviews on such hard and software,
I recently posted a request on this NG
for a source of XP "reviews" and promptly got accused of spamming
from some clot, when I <honestly> sought links to where one may
see reviews on XP utlities. (seemed to me to be on topic "XP general")
( I "tested" mine, test kit=$20 (board and mouse), and I came to a similar
conclusion)

I have a Microsoft wireless mouse. Been using it for 6 months,
everyday, with the original batteries, no recharger. Logitech is good
too.
