Hi All

Can anyone tell me (simply) what is the best method I can use to find out
how many people are visiting my webpages. I have looked around the web and
there seems to be lot and lot of webcounters on offer - why ?? how do they
pay for them.

Someone told me that "some" site are not to be trusted and others are great.

Basically I am looking for a very simply way of telling me if the site is
working well (are people interested).

Many thanks for any advice

Use the session log analyzer provided by your host. It's accurate. Hit
counters are not. Ask your host what they provide.

What is a host and also whats a log analyzer can you access these with
frontpage.

Sorry about the dumb questions

Host means your "web presence provider" which maintains the server you publish your web
too.
Most hosting accounts come with a stats package.

Hello,

Using your hosting company's hosting packages may cause you to lose stats if
you transfer your website to another hosting company, although it is easier
and does not require loading of 3rd party scripts/images.

For 3rd party counters, I recommend StatCounter (
http://www.statcounter.com/) or Google Analytics (
http://www.google.com/analytics/ ).

Hi

Google Analytics has a process called (I think) goals. I don't know if
anyone at google has run this process on Google Analytics itself. They
should it is just confusing.

I have already loaded the code from Google Analytics into the web design. I
think I will delete it today. It will take a while as (includeing subsites)
there are over 700 pages. BUT Google seems to be mainly interested in
selling and analizing ad words on google.

I've used StatCounter for several months. I've had very good results.
