What is best way to upgrade SCSI Raid-5

Hey there all:

My customer has 5 18gb SCSI hot swap drives configured as
a Raid-5. They wish to upgrade it to 5 36gb SCSI hot swap
drives configured as a Raid-5. The server only has 5 hot
swap drive bays. The Raid controller is the Adaptec 2100s.

What I'm thinking about doing is GHOSTing the original
raid to an IDE drive, removing the 18gb SCSI drives,
replacing with the 36gb drives, configuring the new Raid,
and GHOSTing the IDE drive to the new Raid.

Any comments? Is there a better or safer way to do this?

Thanks for you help!!!

Sounds like an excellent plan.

depending on the utilities that the adaptec controller uses, you should be
able to pop 2 more drives in, and expand the capacity. Be sure to have a
good backup of the system.

It should be as simple as an online capacity expansion. I do it all the time
on Dell, IBM, and HPaq servers.
