Best way to sync files

I frequently use two PC's - a laptop running XP Pro and a Desktop running
ME. I am searching for the best way to synchronize the files between the two
machines.

I have tried briefcase but find that opening the directories on the laptop
is very slow. (Reducing the size/number of files provided minimal
improvement).

Is there a better way? Perhaps searching for something like synchronize
folder when working on a server.

Thanks.

I am uing a simple batch file with XXCopy (http://www.xxcopy.com) for
that purpose. Disadvantage: you have to manually sync the files.
