I'm baaack! I want to back up my CD collection to my HDD. (Future burning is
another topic) I have heard much about WMP's tendency to glom onto and keep
messing with files ripped through it. I want to store my files in a lossless
format, but the aforementioned issues kind of rule out lossless WMA. So---I
would like input as to what YOU, the XPerts, consider to be the best
alternate ripping application and formats that don't involve giving Bill
ultimate control over my tunes.
Have at it! :-)

Windows Media Player 10 does an excellent job
of copying CDs. I never had a problem with it
What you may have "heard much about
WMP's tendency to glom onto and keep
messing with files ripped through it" is
nothing more than absolute hogwash.

Hogwash, he says! Not to dispute your MVP-ness, but there are many who
disagree with you, saying that WMP will tend to keep obliterating their tags,
etc.

Never happened to me, and I've ripped a ton
on CDs using WMP...all legitimate, of course!

no problem here with wma's but windows media 10 for xp pro
will let you rip music as mp3's, doesn't work with xp home
on my dell's. No problem using WMP.
It is so simple to use, I believe a 6 year old could do it.

I believe that your concerns about Media Player are bogus, but if you want
to try an alternate ripper, here's an especially accurate one:

http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

The author continues to list it as beta, although the version that was
current in 2001 was quite usable.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
