Best option for programming in Windows?

When I was using Linux, I used to love using Python for everything. Now
that I've replaced the primary OS on my laptop with Windows Vista I'd love
to hear recommendations on the best Microsoft alternative. For simple
scripting tasks, what's the best 'official' technology to use? What's the
best documented online? I'm not sure whether to try to learn PowerShell,
VBScript, the 'New Basic', or look into downloading one of those free Visual
Basic/C++/Whatever IDE's. Suggestions?

Thanks,

- Henson

If you already know and like Python, what is wrong with continuing to use
it? I don't know of anything 'official' from MS that is any better.
