I am helping out someone by taking over support of their web site. I figured
I would just do updates for them. I realize that almost all of the pages are
Gifs and I don't have capability of editing them. I don't want to spend a
lot of money either but I would like to carry through on my commitment. So,
my question is what can I use to change the contents of these Gifs. It's
really only the text in them and not the pictures I need to change.

There is nothing that you can do unless you have the original source files that were used to make
the GIF images.

Hi Thomas:

Thanks for your post. I am able to get into the gif using paint as an
editor. At the same time I can clear text and add it though it doesn't quite
match up perfectly. More to the point, I can't figure out the font and color
to match it perfectly. If I could I do believe I could actually edit the gif
and have it on the web site.

If your client is hoping to have the site index by search engines, then have the text in a image is
not doing them any good. You really should convert the site to text with a few images.

That is just not the way that web pages should be built! I wonder if
Publisher was involved in making those gifs? Show us a page please so that
we can make better suggestions. Generally you don't want the text in a gif
because the file size of the pages will be tooooooooooo large!
URL!

Hi Eleanor:

The site is: www.knighteducation.com. Left hand side - bottom - "Upcoming
Parent-Child Classes" - bottom of that page has a table that is indeed a gif.
Probably should be a table - what do you think?

Philip

ps - thank you Eleanor

Tables aren't gifs. Gifs and other images are place in tables.
It's not a matter of editing the text in the gif, it's a matter of creating
a new gif with the text you want, or use text in a table cell.

The bottom line, there are too many images on the page.

There is a nifty little utility called dotcolor that will tell you what color
your cursor is on at any time. Google for it.

The page is quite nice but NOT for anyone who needs to increase the text
size. The buttons are fine as gifs and there should be only three more
images: thephotos on the left and right and the Starting Over box in the
middle. All the rest should be text that is formatted with CSS. Set up the
page with a table probably 5 rows and 4 columns (for starters).
How much experience have you had with FP?
Here's an example of how you can do this using tables and text in place of
text-gifs.
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/knight.htm
Not finished for sure, but I've put a border on the tables so you can see
how to do it a bit easier.
Tell me when you've seen it so I can delete it from my site.

nothing wrong with using gifs or small jpgs as they are there.
you'll need a image editing program to recreate new ones with new text and
save image as jpg or gif.
there are lots of small utilities that will allow you to match
colors...search google for "color picker" you're sure to find a free one.
