Hi Folks,

I've been searching around on usenet, but haven't found a good place to
ask this question. So I'll ask it here, and if I should be posting this
somewhere else, I'd very much appreciate suggestions for other groups.
thanks in advance. so here goes:

I'm searching around for a good calendar app on XP. I currently use
Iambic Agendus for Windows Palm Desktop edition. I used to have a palm,
hence that choice. I like its flexibility, though it could be easier on
the eyes, and it does have some issues - for example, I can't restrict
the view to show just a few categories of events/tasks at a time.

I haven't used Outlook yet, as I use thunderbird for my email. I would
be open to trying outlook as a pure calendar app, but i'd rather not use
it as my email.

I tried Sunbird/Lightning recently, but was unimpressed.

In the end, I'm need to be able to highlight long-term deadlines via
restricting views to those tasks only. I need something that
integrates, tasks, contacts and a calendar. And something that will
sync to windows mobile. And, something that doesn't always need an
internet connection (read: google calendar won't do the trick, except as
a sync or tool to use when i'm not on my laptop).

Looking forward to hearing feedback on how folks solve this for
themselves. Thanks a bunch.

Allie

I like Outlook's calendar facilities, and you can use those without
using its E-mail capabilities.

However, if you've never used Outlook, in my view you shouldn't make
any advance decision about whether you want to use it for E-mail. Give
its E-mail capabilities a try, and *then* decide which you prefer.

Fair enough. How does outlook fare with task management? Tasks lists
and the like.

Outlook handles tasks very well, but you would need to be a lot more
specific with WHAT type of task issues you are inquiring about.

Best bet for you is to start using Outlook and see what it CAN do and then
inquire if it does not do something that you need. Chances are, you will
have a learning curve and find out Outlook's capabilities with judicious
questions to the appropriate Outlook group (not office) such as Contacts,
Calendaring, or General.

Hi Allie,

How "recent" is recent for Sunbird/Lightning? Version 1 will be out
soon (it's still beta) with the launch of TB 3. I've heard great things
about it. I use 0.9 and it does everything I need.

I like it, but try it yourself and see what *you* think.

You might like to take a look at EssentialPIM. You can certainly sort
tasks by the importance rating you assign it. It has tasks, contacts and
calendar, schedule and notes. There is a portable version as well
which is very handy and the one I use all the time. It's lightweight,
opens fast and can import contacts from OE or in CSV or vCard format.
The portable version I am using is just over 8MB. Oh, and it's free
