When I start up my HP desktop, the computer sounds four bells? Someone told
me that is a signal from the system in notifying me that my harddrive is
failing? Does anyone have any information on this or what these bell sounds
are for? I'm running XP Pro with SP3.

Depends on which BIOS you have:

You need to call HP tech support and ask them. The sounds are coming from
the BIOS, which has nothing to do with Windows. This is an audible code to
let you know something is wrong with the hardware. HP will know what their
own code means.
