I know this is not the correct group for this question but could not find a good WORD group
I felt appropriate. I use XP, and Word 97. Recently started getting this pop up message
every time I opened an existing Word Document...

"c:\....\filename.doc is being used by Earl Partridge. Do you want to make a copy"

Maybe someone can point me to the correct source for an answer.

Navigate to and open the folder containing the word doc, look for that same
document but with a faded view icon, if you find it delete it. Then try
opening the document again.
