When I send my movie to my DV camera, Sony DCR-TRV250 Digital 8, during playback, the beginning of the movie is cut off. Is there an option where I can add blank video to the beginning of my movie so that it cuts that off instead or is there something else I can do

-Thanks

Hi there,

This is a well known problem.

1) Create a bitmap in Windows Paint. It can be any size, perhaps 100 x 100, its
not that important.

2) Fill the bitmap with a colour of your choice. Black might be a good one.

3) Save the Bitmap to your hard drive (Making a note of where you put it.

4) Run Movie Maker and import the bitmap (Import Pictures option)

5) Place the bitmap at the beginning of your project . You should take note
that doing this will move all the video clips to the left, but it will not move
any text you have added or additional audio.

6) Use the small plus sign at the left of the time line and zoom in so that you
can see at least 5 seconds of the time track

7) Place mouse over the right edge of the bitmap and press left mouse button

8) Drag left edge of bitmap to the right so that the left edge is approx 5
seconds from the start.

9) Make adjustments to the position of all items that did not move by dragging
them to left by the same amount (5 Seconds)

10) Create Movie

I had this with my TRV-30...I got around it by recording
approx 10secs footage in the camcorder with the lens cap
on. I then captured that and stored the clip in a
Collection that I call Blanks. I also have a white one
there too. I use these constantly not only for intros and
exits, but also to drop in between clips on the timeline
to extend/smoothen transitions...also as the basis for
extra title or text pages (use the "create title/credits
on the selected clip" option).

Yeah papa,

That works. And while we're on that topic...

Many people ask how to put long movies together, you can
use a similar trick. On Clip 'A', Just add a blank title
at the end and set clip duration to (10) seconds. On
Clip 'B', Add a blank title to the beginning with a
duration of (10) seconds. If the color of the background
is the same they blend together seamlessly when playing
back to tape.

NOTE: MM2 will not add a blank title. Simple type a
period '.' in the title text box. by default, the screen
is blue and the text is white, change the color of the
text to blue. Bingo, a 'blank' title.

Remember, when you cue a tape to record, and the signal
goes to the camera, on some cameras, the tape rolls back
a few seconds (on mine 5-7 seconds.) When doing so , it
can erease that last few seconds of 'A'. Also, at the
same time, the video is playing in the computer. so
you're losing a few seconds of 'B'. With 10 seconds at
each end I wind up with a 3-4 second pause between
tapes.

Note:
Obviously, this won't work in all situations but for
training tapes, or a video that has a logical point to
break, it works fine. Also, for longer training tapes
when splicing them together, I use the title for the next
section as the last clip on 'A' and the first clip on 'B'
whoe playing back to tape it puts the clips together
nicely. (have to use a static title.)

Hi there,

Shudder !!! I am not Papa!!!

With regards to the period idea, I had forgotten that one. Was it you that
mentioned a few months back? I don't think I ever got around to trying it
myself, mostly because my camera does not seem to have the delay issue.

Thanks for the great ideas. )
