Beginner questions about creating a sheet.

Hi all,

I am having trouble learning some basic functions. So far all I can do is
simple calculations. I have made a tip calculator, and growth preidictor for
recruitment numbers.

Howerver where can I go to get basic step by step training? I just want to
create a simple sheet that contains a stage that a sale is in like (1st,
2nd, 3rd etc), the sale name and the name of the person who is buying or
being cultivated.

I would also like to create a sheet that has check marks that are not in the
form tools. I see how I can insert those, but I also downloaded a template
and it has check marks with in the cells that are entered by adding a "a".
How was that done?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Most people format their cells to use a particular font so that when they
enter in a character such as 'a', it appears like a tick or a cross etc.
For example, if you format the cells to use Wing Dings 2 and then enter in
an uppercase 'P' it will appear as a tick. Likewise, if you format the cell
as Marlett and enter in an 'a' it will appear as a tick.

As for step by step training, there are a number of books, training courses,
online sites, offline and online help etc. I'd suggest buying a good book
(perhaps someone can jump in here with their favourite/s?) and having a play
around with Excel. If you run into any problems the newsgroup is here to
help.

HTH,
Katherine
