I keep getting this message when working with 'Customize Forms' in both
Accounts and Business Contacts!

I just upgraded to Ultimate 2007, and have spend days trying to integrate it
into my business functions. I have only just logged into this community, and
now realize that you guys are here, and have already learned what I am
learning. So ...

.... I cannot bare the thought of reading through every posting to find out
if someone has already figured this one out. (The is only one bad news
posting when I search on 'limit of 40 user-defined fields.') Does this really
mean that I cannot do anything more in BCM forms?! Please help a tired BCM
Newbie!

The problem seems to be that ... I have been creating-recreating and
otherwise playing with fields and forms, and it seems I have exhausted my
limit for BMC. How can I delete some fields that are not going to work for
me, so I can continue with my customized set up?!

Jan

Jan:

Yes, you've come to the right place. But, the answer may not be pleasing to
you...

You have 40 custom fields for the BCM Contact record, another 40 for
Opportunities, another 40 for Accounts, and another 40 for Business
Projects. You can delete any of the ones you've created and move others
around, but when you get the message you got, you're out of fields to use.

HTH,
Lon

Lon,

Thank you for responding. That is not good news.

Why. Why! Why?
Why wouldn't Microsoft at least warn that there is a 40-field limit that,
when crossed, basically shuts the business owner down?
Why can't unuseful fields be deleted?
Why only 40?

This makes BCM useless to me. And all because, as a new user, I experimented
too much!

I expect the reason for the limit is that the custom fields are
columns in a database table.

I can delete and resuse custom fields.

Do you mean to tell us that there's no way to change any fields?

Can information be cleared off an inactive field then changed the field
properties to re-use persay?
