BCM-EN.EXE won't install - and that's the least of my worries

I have been having problems with office 2007 beta from the 1st day when
Business Contact Manager failed to install.

Then Outlook started having problems (see below) - and Office Diagnostics
didn't help so I tried reinstalling and that failed as did uninstalling but
at least my programs were working - although Outlook obviously was having
problems..

After compacting my mailbox (successfully, I thought) in Outlook (to try to
speed things up - I clicked on another folder & Outlook stopped responding-
then shut down and when it restarted I got the message : "Cannot start
Outlook. Cannot open Outlook Window. The set of folders cannot be opened .
The file C:\ . . . Outlook3.pst is not a personal folders file."

I've tried running Office diagnostics & system restore to no avail. I've
also tried running OPPLUS-EN.EXE again but both repair & uninstall fail -
actually repair failed for me before this all happened because Outlook was
starting up very slowly & occasionally not responding (especially when I was
selecting multiple messages for deletion).

My other Office programs seem OK (a little sluggish) - other than being
unable to install BCM-EN.EXE - but that's 2ndary at the moment.

Thanx!

I also cannot install BCM-EN.EXE on the beta. Actually, it told me it
installed, but the BCM toolbars and menus aren't there. Tried repairing the
installation and it tells me it cannot find the source file (which I am
running it from, of course).

Didn't want to uninstall outlook since I'm afraid it will lose my data, but
has anyone found a solution? Figured I'd wait til beta 3 comes out and see if
that fixes it but would really like to try BCM and see if it will work for
order tracking.

Please see my post, search for Failed Install? and SusanG.

I fixed my Beta install, when BCM 2007 would not install no matter what I did.

So I went to a MS event yesterdayand asked a software guy from Microsoft
about BCM and the fact that it doesn't work. HE says it doesn't work and
won't work and everyone knows it and basically told me I should just get over
it. I then asked him why MS would offer it for download and he says that is
normal... at least the others work. I told him I paid 1.50 to download the
file and spent a couple hours trying to get it to work, modifying my registry
and tweaking various part of my system for absolutely nothing and perhaps he
could talk to someone and have the download removed from the site so others
don't go through the same thing. He told me the file would be staying on the
site even though it doesn't work and they hope to fix it before Office2007
ships. I have heard people did get it to work, but hasn't been my experience.

My two cents -
BCM Beta 2007 does work, it's the installer that fails. Read my earlier post
about a resolution to one problem with installing. Yes, this is extremely
annoying. Is it reason to not use the product? - not for me, I love this
product!
Re: Microsoft - is this something new? We all know they push crap out to
beta testers to help them develop the product.

We all need to work on fixing the problems with the installer by coming up
with workarounds. The issue I discovered is that for the BCM-EN.exe to fire,
you've got to have an existing BCM install on the box. In process of
installing the Beta, you have to choose BCM 2003 or BCM 2007 and when crap
happens, and you end up reinstalling, because there is no BCM 2003 to install
over, the Beta install fails.

Thanks Susan, I had tried your suggestions and those of several others to no
avail. I have scoured the install logs tweaking things woth no luck also...
I am hoping for a new installer, or I might try again on one of my other
boxes. I am interested in seeing the improvements - we shall see.
