This won't fix all failures, but after 4 weeks of trying to fix a failed BCM
2007 install (I had Office 2003 installed and working, side-by-side with
Office 2007 incl. Outlook installed and working, but BCM 2007 installer
failed, time after time, no error messages).
The secret to success today? The BCM 2007 installer is looking for an
existing BCM 2003 installation to proceed and when it can't find it, the
install fails.
When I first installed the Beta, weeks ago, I saw that the Beta installer
removes Outlook (with BCM 2003), so it can install Outlook 2007. (note: You
can install all other Office 2007 apps side-by-side with Office 2003 EXCEPT
Outlook - you can only install one instance of Outlook.)
Today I started out with Office 2003, no Outlook, no BCM, installed
side-by-side with Office 2007 including Outlook but no BCM 2007. So I
uninstalled Outlook 2007 from Control Panel first. Then I installed Outlook
2003 from CP next, it worked. Installed BCM 2003 and SP3, from downloads, and
it worked. I also checked for BCM folder install - all good. OK, so I had
Office 2003, including Outlook with BCM 2003, and Office 2007, no Outlook
2007, no BCM 2007, installed and all functioning.
Then I removed the Beta completely, rebooted. I had to do this to reinstall
Outlook 2007, the Beta installer seems to be install everything or nuttin.
Reinstalled entire Beta, picked Outlook 2007 over Outlook 2003.
Removed existing Mail profile, created a new one.
Checked that Outlook 2007 worked.
Last, I ran the BCM 2007 installer, and finally, SUCCESS. Saw the window
where installer removed the existing BCM 2003 installation, something that I
see is required, I guess so Microsoft can stop folks from installing BCM 2007
without first finding license or registry keys for BCM 2003.
So if anyone has a broken BCM 2007 install, check that you have an existing
BCM 2003 install to remove first. Install it if it's not there, then try
again. Good luck!
