battery icon

Even though I have the "always show battery icon on my
computer it rarely ever shows up unless I'm charging it.
This can be a pain, because if my battery is low it will
just turn off the computer with out warning (because it is
at 0%), even though I tell to give me warning. Is there
anyway to fix this?
