Ive been right were you are, I use to scan my pictures with my old
trusty LS-1000. But that is almost a ancient relic by know. If you
really want your moneys worth I would suggest a Nikon Coolscan. I
recently got my Coolscan 5000ED and I am amazed buy how efficient it
is.
Workflow: I feed it with a film (uncut) of eight slide or so and it
will scan thumbnails, I rotate thumbnails the way I want them, I set
whatever auto tools I want to use (auto-focus/auto-crop)... select all
thumbs and press scan. Then I just have time to go get a cup of coffey
sit down and relax and voila.. it is done!
From what I hear the difference between Coolscan 5000ED and Coolscan
50 is more or less only that the 50 model takes a bit longer to scan.
If you are a real professional you might want to go with Coolscan 8000
/ 9000, but those are way beyond my pricetag.
Anyways, I am not anywere near a professional and this is just from my
brief experience with this scanner... but it has simply never been
this easy to scan slides.
Hopefully some pro will come around and tell you whatever this info is
correct or not... but anyway, you should really look into Nikon. They
dont do cheap stuff, but they do do quality.
