Batch file to switch between multiple monitors and single display

I have an external monitor for my laptop. At times I will switch between
single monitor mode and dual monitor mode, depending on what I am working on.

I'd like to set up a batch file to quickly convert from one monitor to two
and then back again. I'd also like to change the display properties to have
a higher resolution on the second monitor when it is activated.

Is it possible to write a simple batch file to do this, or must I always go
through the desktop function each time I want to switch?

I'm not lazy, but I do like to take advantage of computer functionality.

Thanks.

You may be able to do this with a Virtual Desktop Manager, which would
allow you to have a quick key sequence to switch between displays.

I use AltDesk, but there are no doubt others available

Jon,

I gave it a try this morning. I downloaded the virtual desktop manager from
Microsoft. Whatever I set up for my display is consistent regardless of the
virtual desktop I use. Also, if I change the backdrop in anything other than
the primary desktop, it always reverts back to the original.

Not really a crisis, but would still be an interesting item to resolve.

GregW,

I'm looking for the same batch file - every morning, I have to go
through the process of enabling a second monitor for my laptop. I
tried to use Virtual Desktop Manager, but found that it didn't really
handle the single to multiple monitor switch.

I haven't found anything yet for this fix, but I'll post if I find
something.

Virtual Desktop Managers vary in their functionality, so it may be worth
trying out a few. There may be another virtual desktop manager around that
does exactly what you want.
