I have Googled this, but the distinctions between XP Home and XP Pro seem to
be obscured. So I'd like to ask here. Can anyone confirm/rebut/advise?
It is my assumption that XP Home can "share" folders and files, while
offering no restrictions on who might read, and even overwrite, those
folders and files. As such, XP Home offers only a watered-down NTFS. It is
unsecurable.
It is my assumption that XP Pro provides not only file-level NTFS
permissions, but also permissions at the share interface, such that the
administrator can empower only specific passworded users to view folder and
files. This means TWO levels of permissions, which are familiar to this
experienced NT and Win2K user.
