Does your host support unique permissions?
Do you have access to your account control panel eg HELM, CPanel etc, in
which there might be options to protect files/folders?
What operating system is your host using? Linux or Windows? On Linux, you
could use .htaccess and .htpasswd. (google for these terms).
On Windows, there's a similar idea (IISpassword I think it's called).
It brings up the logon box (standard windows dialogue type box).
Check with your host about these.
