O/S
Windows 2000 Server
4.88 gigs used
692 available
9.77 unallocated disk available

I am looking for a way to extend my basic disk of 5 Gigs which hosts
all of my operating system files. I wanted to use the Diskpart.exe
option however, I received the following error:

Diskpart failed to extend the volume.
Please make sure the volume is valid for extending

I do have Symantec's Volume Manager and I cannot open it due to the
fact that it cannot identify the unallocated partition of 9.77 gigs.
So I am trying to find the following solution:

A. Convert the basic disk to dynamic without losing any OS files or
apps.
B. Use Diskpart.exe to extend the volume onto the unallocated disk
space.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

diskpart doesn't seem to be an option here; it won't extend a system volume
or a volume with the pagefile.
even if you make the disk dynamic, because it was originally a basic disk,
you are not allowed to extend it.

How to use Diskpart.exe to extend a data volume in Windows Server 2003, in
Windows XP, and in Windows 2000
