These "cube PCs" use microATX mobo or even custom mobos. Do
a search for "cube PC" on Google. Also checkout TechTV for
build computer, Yoshi builds and modes these things, has
several articles on the pitfalls.

see www.techtv.com/screensavers/

Shuttle, as I've read, make pretty good cube cases. I would check them out. Try these sites

Most of the bare-bones computers out there now, especially the small form
factor (SFF) ones, come with pretty simple instructions, so setting one up
is a no-brainer. You pretty much just plug in the processor, memory and
drives and power it on, there is really not much of a way to do it wrong.
There are a lot of hardware sites out there that discuss building computers,
but most of them I know are for modding or overclocking so they are very
technical and not what you are looking for. Good luck.
