I have a Canon I950 (about 9months old), which has been perfect until today.
For no apparant reason I have "banding" on my A4 prints. The only thing I
have done recently is to change two ink tanks.

Can anyone give an explanation, or point me in the direction for remedial
action?

TIA

Jim

Did you run cleaning or deep cleaning?

No I didn't, however as an update I did run a nozzle test and the problem
seems to have disappeared. I suppose there must have been a problem when I
replaced the tanks.

I had the same problem on my Canon 820 (similar print engine to the 960) About 6 months old but with a lot of use. Cleaning didn't fix the problem, nor did new carts. The local Canon agent replaced the head and "absorbtion pad" (?) under warranty. This is quite an expensive excercise on the 6 cartridge Canons and I would advise you to keep a good eye on it before the warranty runs out!
Cheers...
Phillip..

Hi All,

I have the canon s9000 since they first came out.

But the following may apply for you...

Canon replaced the "ink tank pad" in the 11th month -(I used a LOT of
ink-paper-deep cleaning, etc).

In the last year I was careful of the 'deep cleaning' and so far-so-good.

Now to the banding - I refill my cartages (many-many-many times), with
success !!

WHEN (not if) -I get banding, I remove the head and clean (very carefully)
with Windex - cleaning both ways - from the printhead to the input screens
and from the screen area to the heads. Make sure that you do NOT get the
'works' wet.... but I clean till no color appears when blotting the head on
paper towel.

Blow dry both ways - (glasses are needed) - reinstall head - reinstall
tanks - clean a time or two and print.

This works for me.... YMMV

One MAY also get banding (or an off-coloring) when the ink tanks (epically
the yellow) is low and the printhead may not be able to draw the VOLUME of
ink necessary to make up the proper color -

I find this happens more when I am printing a 13x19 or a long and heavy
colored print / and when I have refilled 8-10 times ... and at that time,
I go out and buy new canon ink set and rock on.... again - - works for
me - - - - YMMV

Take care -John b

I just had the same problem today, after many
months of printing. Doing the nozzle test showed
many problems. I printed solid colors, cleaning,
and kept doing the nozzle test and it seems for
the moment to be ok. I ruined an 8 x 10 before I
discovered the problem. I refilled three colors
and didn't do much printing after the refill. Not
doing much printing seems to be the only thing I
did different this time. I am still a little
afraid to burn another full sheet of photo paper
to prove everything is ok. 4 x 6's look ok so it
is probably alright. I am going to try the nozzle
test a few more times just to be sure.

My i950 sat for 5 weeks recently and printed it's first photo perfectly. I
only use Canon original inks though. It _might_ have something to do with
it, maybe not.

I doubt it is the fact that I am refilling, but
anything is possible. For the savings I can afford
to do a cleaning and nozzle test until it clears
up. I figure it costs me about $1.00 to refill a
ink tank. That's about an $11.00 savings per tank.
I have refilled them all around 3 times.(more for
PC and PM) That is over a $200 savings so far.
I'll deal with it unless it gets real bad.
