I would appreciate any help or assistance that can be offered.
I am having a little difficulty with the balance in regards to the left
and right speakers. I have the Altec Lansing 2100 speaker system. Sound come
out of both of them.
The balance control, in the Volume Control and the Windows Media Player,
when pushed to the left has sound coming out of both speakers. When the
balance control is pushed to the right, no sound comes out of either
speaker. The Tone Controls in the Volume Control (Advanced) are greyed out.
Checked the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Nothing. Everything that it checks,
works. Does not approach nor test the balance issue.
Audio- ADI AD 1980 AoundMAX 6-Channel audio CODEC. Checked out the
SoundMAX Control Panel. Everything checks out. Doesn't really talk about
balance. The Test Listening Environment is interesting though. Tried the
Stationary Left 45 degrees. The sound comes out of both speakers. Tried the
Stationary Right 45 degrees. The sound comes out of both speakers but it
sounds "faded". Like the speakers are really far away.
Contacted the guy who put the system together for me and he suggested
that "all i can suggest is to go to microsofts knoledge base and lookup any
problems & fixes for speaker balance not working. also checkout there FAQ
for any helpful hints and solutions other people might have had."
Ever try to play Thief and you can't tell if the guard is coming from
your right or left?
I am running WindowsXP. Includes Service Pack 1.
If any other information is needed, just ask.

Thanks,
--
Jo

Check your speaker connections, make sure the plug is pushed in all the way
into the jack on your computer. You have the left channel connected to both
speakers. This can happen if you don't push the plug all the way in. Push
hard.

Ray,
Well . Do I ever feel stupid. I double checked all the connections by
pulling the connetions out and then putting them back in. Hard. Presto
changeo. It now works. Right and left. The SoundMAX Test Listening
Environment, perfect.
I am now courious. The Tone Controls in the Volume Control (Advanced)
are still greyed
out. Would you happen to know why?
Thanks,

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

Glad you found the problem. Don't know if I can help with the tone control,
but some sound cards have tone control capability, and some don't.
