Windows XP Pro.

In my own folder under 'Documents and Settings" is a folder named 'Recent'
It is full of rubbish, i.e. folders I have never heard of and the size of
the Recent folder shows 244GB which is ridiculous as my drive is only
18gigg! Some of the dates are way in the future and I just can not get rid
of the folders.

Any ideas please!!

right click on <start>
left click <properties> <Start menu> <Customize>
On the "Advanced Tab" <Clear List>
If you don't want this option in the future, clear the box

Thanx but I'm afraid that had no effect on the RECENT folder. Any other
suggestions ??

Hello,

Try doing a CHKDSK (check disk).

Start > RUN > CHKDSK /F > Y > Restart PC

I would advise having a backup before doing this - in *case* something goes
wrong
with Chkdsk.

you see those replies and try what was suggested? If so what was the
outcome? It's best to keep your follow up posts in the same thread for
continuity. If you can't find your post from yesterday, you made it at

If you can't find a post search for it using Google Groups Advanced Search.
Search in this newsgroup, microsoft.public.windowsxp.general on your name as
author for posts on 5/2.

I see you're using Outlook Express so I don't understand why you can't find
the post. Are you downloading enough headers? Also do a Ctrl-H to filter
showing the threads you have been involved in.

error I get when trying to delete says - Cannot read from source file or
disk.

Sorry, sorry guys !! CHKDSK /f eventually did the trick! All the rubbish is
gone.
